Science, books, and ice cream-- oh my!

CQ Texas MicroscopeHey Camp Quest families! We are proud to announce that we are co-sponsoring a Richard Dawkins family event at The Birmingham Temple in Farmington Hills, Michigan on Saturday, October 15th at 10:00 am.  Dr. Dawkins will be reading from his new book, The Magic of Reality, answering questions, and signing books.  The reading will be followed by science experiments and ice cream!

The Magic of Reality is beautifully illustrated by Dave McKean and is for an audience of all ages.  It is "Packed with clever thought experiments, dazzling illustrations and jaw-dropping facts, The Magic of Reality explains a stunningly wide range of natural phenomena. What is stuff made of? How old is the universe? Why do the continents look like disconnected pieces of a puzzle? What causes tsunamis? Why are there so many kinds of plants and animals? Who was the first man, or woman? This is a page-turning, graphic detective story that not only mines all the sciences for its clues but primes the reader to think like a scientist."

After the reading, local college students (including volunteers from the Wayne State College Secular Student Alliance affiliate) will be running hands-on science experiments in the side rooms! Kids will not only get the chance to hear about science from one of the most famous biologists in the world, but also get to try their hand at being scientists!

Of course, no event would be complete without ice cream, because who can appreciate the magic of reality on an empty stomach?

This event is free and open to the public. There will be babysitting available for children under age 7.
