Camp Quest Texas and the Magic of Reality

Dawkins with Camp Quest TX 2011 TFC

Wow, what an exciting weekend! This weekend was the Texas Freethought and Atheist Alliance of America Convention in Houston, and Camp Quest Texas hosted a day camp during the conference. Campers got to do exciting things like extract DNA from fruit, discuss philosophy at Socrates’ Café, and go on a scavenger hunt around the convention hotel. It was a great day for having fun and learning, and great for parents who wanted to attend the rest of the conference.

Science, books, and ice cream-- oh my!

CQ Texas MicroscopeHey Camp Quest families! We are proud to announce that we are co-sponsoring a Richard Dawkins family event at The Birmingham Temple in Farmington Hills, Michigan on Saturday, October 15th at 10:00 am.  Dr. Dawkins will be reading from his new book, The Magic of Reality, answering questions, and signing books.  The reading will be followed by science experiments and ice cream!

The Magic of Reality is beautifully illustrated by Dave McKean and is for an audience of all ages.  It is "Packed with clever thought experiments, dazzling illustrations and jaw-dropping facts, The Magic of Reality explains a stunningly wide range of natural phenomena. What is stuff made of? How old is the universe? Why do the continents look like disconnected pieces of a puzzle? What causes tsunamis? Why are there so many kinds of plants and animals? Who was the first man, or woman? This is a page-turning, graphic detective story that not only mines all the sciences for its clues but primes the reader to think like a scientist." » Read more
